youtube videos won't play in Safari
This just happened in the past week or so. The videos will play fine using Chrome, but not Safari. Did something happen at youtube? Is this a flash issue? Something with Safari?
Any ideas?

This doesn't seem to be current 5 years later;
- it said:
Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin.
Uninstall your current copy of Flash then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
** did that
Then quit and relaunch Safari.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
** did that - it's in the developer menu
Restart your Mac, try a video.
If you continue to have problems, go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.flashplayer.installmanager
Move the Cache.db file from the com.adobe.flashplayer.installmanager folder to the Trash.
**no such folder. !Library/Preferences doesn't have a com.adobe. <anything> folder and the adobe folder doesn't seem to have anything like this.
Any current info on this issue? I have the issue on one Mac but not the other.
tnx
You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved and is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
Are you looking for the Adobe folder in your user Library?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library.

Safari extensions can prevent some video from streaming. Go to Safari > Preferences then select select the Extensions tab.
If you have any installed, switch to OFF, quit then relaunch Safari, try again.
If you have ClickToFlash installed in ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins, move that plug in to the Desktop. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
Thanks Carolyn. That worked perfectly.
The interesting thing to me was that it just started, as if Youtube or Safari made some internal change. Using your helpful link ("Troubleshoot...."), it turned out I had a very old copy of Flash, so whatever problem would have seemingly been happening before, but it wasn't.
Anyway, thanks for your insights!
You're welcome Carl 🙂
I have the same problem. Some Youtube videos (not all, but most) wont' play in Safari, but will play in Firefox and Google Chrome with no problem. I tried the above solution and it did not work. When I click, the dot circle spins around then it seems to start playing, though the video remains black. It plays for about 4 seconds, then goes back to the beginning, plays for 4 seconds again, etc. etc. Any advice? I'd rather not switch to Google or Firefox, but I will if this can't be solved.
Same here.
I found this solution in another thread, and it worked for me: Go to Safari Preferences, Privacy, and Remove all Website Data. That's it. It's played every video I tried so far.
Yep, that finally worked for me either! Thanks!
