Q: How do I connect airport to my stereo?

All,

 

Please forgive my NooB-ness, but I'm confused.  I am a new iPhone user (can't believe it took this long) and I want to stream music wirelessly to my stereo system.  The stereo has multiple speakers attached, but it is not attached to my TV.  It is a stand alone stereo system.  I've asked my brother who is a long time apple guy, he says, "Get an apple TV and stream that way..." again, I'm not hooked up to my TV.  So I thought using the airport express, I could use the mini stereo jack and plug into my stereo system on an AUX input, and stream wirelessly that way.  Make sense?  Will it interfere with my home wireless Fios network?  How am I able to select which speakers I want to use?  I have multiple pairs wired to the stereo in various areas of the house...  Can I stream Pandora this way?  Will my phone ring through the stereo speakers?  What about the wife's iPhone?  Who's iPhone wins if we both want to stream at the same time?  Any help would be most appreciated...  ObiWan you're my only hope!

    Yes ... and that is typically how the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is used.

    You will want to configure the AX to join the current FiOS network as a wireless client. Please check out the following Apple Support article to get an idea on how this is done.

    If you want to steam to more than one set of speakers, each additional set would require its own AX. You control which speakers are streamed to via the AirPlay Speaker icon in iTunes or the Music App. You can also stream simultaneously to multiple set of speakers.

     

    Can I stream Pandora this way?

    Yes, but you will require an additional application to do so. One of these is Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil.
