I received my sisters old iPhone 4 Verizon because she has upgraded. My contract doesn't expire for a while, so can I just use it like you would an iPod? No calling or texting, just as like an iPod touch.

The question was about a Verizon phone. Verizon phones do not have SIM cards. Somoene please provide an answer that works for a Verizon phone. This is a perplexing issue,

In your case, just start using it as an iPod (essentially a Touch). You can do everything but make calls or sending SMS/MMS (but I think you can iMessage and FaceTime if on Wi-Fi).
