No need for the super-large font. It serves only to turn people off.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

Don't worry - if the worst happens, you're still in warranty!

Is it getting charged? Do you have another cable you can try, or even use the wall charger. If connecting to your computer via the cable, is it the cable that came with the touch, or another iPods cable? Lower versions of iPod do not have 2.0 USB cables, so ensure you are using the one that came with the Touch.

What port are you plugging into? A keyboard USB port may only be a 1.1 USB port, where your Touch requires a 2.0 USB port.

If connecting to a Mac computer, try resetting the computers PRAM to ensure all ports are active. http://http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html

Try connecting to another computer if you have access to one, to rule out the iPod, and it's cable. Also keep in mind, if the power on the iPod is very low, you may need to let it charge for 15 min. or more, before it will be recognized in iTunes.

I'm having a similar problem. I kinda stopped using my itouch for a month or so. i picked it up again a few days ago to use and no surprise, the battery was dead. so i plugged it into my computer and no response. my PC doesnt recognize that anything has been plugged in and there is nothing that shows up on the itouch screen. i tried resetting it by pressing the top and home button and nothing seems to show a response. i plugged in my friends ipod into my PC and it recognizes it so its not my computer or the cable. its also a 4g itouch. help!!
