macbook pro battery charge to 98%

What's up guys! just braught a band new mac 15" about 2 days ago. some prior users (friends) advised me that to get the full potential of my mac, charge it fully then drain the power completely, and do it a few times.. so far, it's done..but for some reason, it's only charging up to 98% .. however, i've read a few of the threads with potentially the same problem as mine and i found this to be normal.. now, my question is, can someone explain to me, why in the **** would apple even do this? it says, to remedy the 98%, disconnect it until its under 93% then charge it, and it should charge to 100% .. but why in the world would i want to do that everytime the macbook charges to 98%? i'm way to continuously do that every time .. and i understand .. 2% is merely ehh..but if i pay $2k+ for the 2.4ghz i expect perfection .. as would anyone ..

Your battery and computer remember the batteries previous charges. It may remember the battery was not fully charged via the last charge, and that is why it is displaying 98%.

There are some things you should do to maintain your batteries health.

just a friendly FYI:

Portables with built-in batteries

Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that shouldbe replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

For one thing your friend is completely wrong. You should NEVER drain the battery down to zero or even close to zero. Maybe to 10 or 20% but never purposely go below that.

My MBP will charge to 100% and then after being on the charger for several hours it will drop to 99%.

At first this bothered me but then I got use to it because once I started using it on the battery only and then plugged the charger back in it would go to 100%.

If it is always only going to 98% then maybe you should be concerned. But it it does go to 100% there is nothing to worry about, unless you like worrying.

The best thing you can do is buy Applecare to extend the warranty to 3 years and get 3 years of phone tech support, instead of the standard 90 days of phone support.
