What is the file format you are saving your Excel documents in and what version is the recipient using? It's possible there is a file format incompatiblity. For example if you are saving in .docx and the recipient is using a version that was earlier than the .docx format then you have to save the files in .doc format.
One method of testing is to send yourself an Excel file as an attachement and see if you have the same problem.
I'm not the most commputer literate in the world so bear with me. I think the answer to your qustion is
Mac OS X 10.7.2
2008 Excel Mac 12.3.2
and POP Mail 5.1
I go to file and send as an attachemnt
Thanks
Are you using Mail to send email and, if so, when you attach the file to the email does it display the file within the body of the email (inline) and are the recipients likely to be PC users rather than Mac (so many questions 🙂 ). If it does there are a couple of things that might help.
In Mail>Edit Menu make sure 'Always send Windows-friendly attachments' is ticked and also if the attachment displays within the body of the email Control+Click or right click on it and select 'View as icon'. PC users will hopefully now receive a 'proper' file.
Edit - just noticed you get the same problem when sending it to yourself. Stil worth trying the 'View as icon' thing.
That is odd, so the problem is on your side. In that case I'd recommend re-installing MS Office. BTW there is a forum specifically for MS Office for Mac. You can find it by clicking the Office for Mac Product Forums link.

Hi Paul,
Good idea but she gets the same error when he/she sends a message to herself. To me that points the finger at MS Office rather than Mail...what do you think?
Hi Roger
Just edited my post after seeing it happens when sent to themself (is that a proper word).
So still worth a try of the View as icon trick, I reckon.
P.S. Beleted congrats on your knew status (thumbsupsmiley - we need more emoticons on here)

Slightly awkward but it communicates properly and that is what is important.

Aw shucks....thanks. 😁 Agreed on the emoticons.

Paul,
It was set up as you suggested in both cases. I don't have the disc with me as I'm in Florida and the disc is in Iowa. Thanks to both of you for your help. I'll keep trying.

What version of OS X, what version of MS Office for Mac, what mail system are you using, how are you attaching the email, etc.
We need information in order to help you.
Yes, same thing when I send it to myself
Thanks guys. I have to leave the house for a while will get back to trying these things later today.
