Can the iPad 2 read RAW files into Photo?
Can the iPad 2 read RAW files into Photo?
What happened when you tried it?
My granddaughter is getting one for her birthday and she uses a DSLR and shoots photos on the RAW setting. I'm happy to see that the iPad 2 will read those files, just like her MacBook in iPhoto. Big asset, especially when traveling.
Your original question was would the iPad read RAW files. The answer is yes.
Whether or not photo from your granddaughter's dSLR camera will be recognized is different question which is depend on the brand and model of the dSLR camera.

Thanks for throwing up the Caution Flag. She shoots Canon RAW files. We shoot Nikon RAW file camera and are considering a Sony which also shoots RAW files. I guess I'd like to know which RAW files are problamatic??????
Need model numbers. Each and every model of camera has its own format for the RAW files.

Absolutely correct but, unfortunately, the brand/model information is not readily available from Apple.
I'm on the phone waiting the the TechSupport team to give us an answer. He's sending me a link to the information and I will post it after reviewing it.
This is not funny, it's frustrating... here's what Apple sends out.

A complete run around...
Here is an article from MacWorld that claims the iPad in their words amazingly supports the same RAW file format as OS X.

IF that is true, then here is list of the supprted cameras

Good luck.
Please keep us posted on this. Thanks.

I wish that I could help you but I have been completely unable to find the information. You may well be reduced to "Try it and see if it works."
That's better than I've found but even that doesn't make sense. Granted, the OS/IOS support is important but so is the application itself. I have three SLRs, two Nikon D80s and one Nikon D5100. I have an iMac with Lion. The D80 NEF (Nikon RAW) files open in every photo application that I have. The D5100 NEF files will not open in Adobe Lightroom but they do open in Adobe Photoshop CS5 via Camera RAW. They also open in iPhoto and Nikon's Capture NX2.
I didn't claim that my reply was correct.
It was the best I was able to find.

I wasn't being critical. I was simply elaborating on the issue. Heck, you found more than I did.
I hope Sandyman comes back with more news.
While I don't have an iPad, a number of users I help support do and they are all into photography as I am.
