Mainstage and Albeton Live using ReWire

I've searched but I don't know if the information i've found are up to date...

So I've mainstage 2.2 and Ableton Live Lite. I'd like to know if is it possible (and how) to link the 2 softwares.

On first i'd like to record audio (coming from mainstage) into Live: is it possible to do that? How should I do it?

Then I'd like to control Live from mainstage, for example to start Live loop...

Thanks!

OK I've found a possible solution for my second problem: how to play Live's loop during a mainstage 'session'.

Using ReWire: the only way is to use mainstage as MASTER, and Live as SLAVE. So:

open Mainstage

add a new Channel Strip as "External Instrument" and set as input: RW:Mix L/R and output your "Output 1-2"

open Live

Done, now if you play an AUDIO loop in Live, it will be forwarded into Mainstage and played in the Channel Strip you created above.

If you change the time in Mainstage, the time will change also in Live.

Now i'm wandering if I could record my mainstage loop/audio into Live... Otherwise I'm going to buy Logic: is it possible to record mainstage audio or midi into Logic right?

You are right. MainStage is only a ReWire master and not a slave. That said, you can use free products like Soundflower to send audio generated inside MainStage to Live.

I haven't tried it before, but you might be able to make something called an 'aggregate device' inside Audio MIDI Setup which includes your audio interface and SoundFlower. This would allow you to route, discreetly, audio, say, via a bus send on a channel strip, to Ableton Live for recording.

Hi.. Been following this post because i have a similar related question. Hope you are able to help.. In a live gig situation., I want to use ableton live to run my loops and control the different parts of my loops using my Midi controller. At the same time i want to use MainStage to layer my sounds and still control them using the same midi controller. Can the set up be done simultaneously or what will my set up be like? And if I'm to use ableton as a slave to MainStage and control the the loops in ableton inside MainStage, how do i do that? And finally I'm intending to send everything to my FOH sound engineer.

Any suggestions or solutions will be appreciated.

I have MainStage 3, Ableton 8, M-audio Axiom 25 midi controller, M-audio m-track audio interface. Im using Macbook pro, OSX 10.8.5 16gb ram - Mountain lion
