External burner not displayed

I recently purchased a LG Blu Ray disc external burner. I have connected it via firewire 800 and I am able to burn both DVDs as well as Blu Ray discs using Toast. However, I can't seem to "find" it on my computer. My other external storage drives display an icon on the desk top and these external storage drives are listed under "Devices" in the finder window, but the Blu Ray burner is not listed. It DOES appear as a choice (along with the iMac's internal burner) in pull down windows for disc burning.

It DOES appear listed under System Profiler for "Disc Burning."

What I'm trying to do is eject/unmount it so that I can disconnect it from the computer without having to shut down the computer, disconnect it, then restart the computer. Is there another way?

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Gary
