Q: How can people reach me by FaceTime
How can people reach me by FaceTime and iMessage? And why do I get calls and iMessages from people who I don't have in my contacts?

iJacob,
People can ready you on FaceTime by using the following hardwares:
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPad 2 (Wifi/3G)
Mac computers with FaceTime application installed (Lion and Snow Leopard)
And with iMessage, users will need an iOS device, which supports iOS5
You can check your ID (they way people can reach you) by going to the following on your iPhone:
Settings > FaceTime
Settings > Messages > Receive At
The above should list your phone number and email address (if have an Apple ID signed in).
As for why you are receiving FaceTime calls and iMessages from people who are not in your contacts, it is because it's designed to be like a telephone service, so everyone who has your email and phone number can reach you.
