Changing your router number most time works & it's all you have to do.

System Preferences>Network

Click the Assist Me button.

In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

Also, run the Airport Utility app which is located inside the Utilities folder.

im using a dlink router.. but in my windows laptop wifi works fine.. with the speed that i have, and i check it in speedtest.. but here is like 1/7 my speed.. its annoying .. ive done the things that you said, but when i click on "assisst" then select the wifi network, and then i need to wait like 3 minutes, said that the setting changed and i need to put my password of the wireless network, i write my password, and then it says that i cant connect cause my username or password is wrong... after waiting like 5 minutes... and i can connect normaly ( slow speed ) but with the assisstant it says error .... i dont know what to do ....

A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error

In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

preferences.plist

com.apple.nat.plist

You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting

dlink router

Read Dlink's user manual and/or visit their customer tech support website.

Hey mate! I have the same problem as you!!

I recieved my non retina macbook pro 2012 today! like 10 hours ago and wifi speeds are insanely horrible!

I have an older sony vaio next to me on the same table, on the same wifi and modem it will get 2 - 2.5x the download speed of the macbook.

I can run a speedtest and get 11mbit/s on the sony and the macbook will get 6mbit/s

Thats with the modem only 2m away!

when the modem is in a different room the sony still gets 9-10 mbit/s and the macbook drops to between 1.5 and 4mbit /s !!

AAARRRGGHH!! I feel your pain.

I have the same problem. Wifi slow on LION. I have a new MBP 2.2 Ghz of May 2012. Connection speed OK on PC windows and OK on a Snow Leopard Mac Book Pro. I have called to apple support and they will send me an "transporter" like UPS to take my MBP to analyze the problem. It is not an hardware problem because OK on Snow leopard but not ok on lion. I think that Mountain Lion will not fixe the problem of slowness.
