A friend of mine has just changed his email address but I cannot remove his old one from Mail. I have added his new address and removed the old one from my Address book but his old address still comes up as the default when starting a new email to him.
Any ideas would be appreciated...Cheers...

It appears because your mail app remembers a history of addresses.
It cannot be deleted but I think it will disappear after a certain time.
LukaMac's information is not correct.
Delete the old email address from Address Book (you did that) and also go to Mail Menu/Window/Previous Recipients and delete it there as well.
Just right click( control click) on the old address and choose edit address and put the new address in, or remove the address.
I would have thought that there would be syncronisation between the Address book and Mail and that any addition or deletion would immediately be seen in Mail.

Thankyou very very very much, I had since forever a problem with an adress, now with your hel I solved it.
From Apple Mail Menu go to "Windows" and select "Previous Recipients"
I followed exactly several "solutions" .Clicked on Window, etc. deleted old address. Went back to check. It was gone, BUT on sending a new msg to my sister it popped up again in the address field
