Trying to install winebottler but won't install completely- error log included

I'm trying to get internet explorer 6 to run so I tried to install winebottler. It gets half-way through install and pauses at loading "flash".


I'm using these instructions: http://osxdaily.com/2010/04/20/run-internet-explorer-on-your-mac/


Install log says: "- "Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly."


I need to access a web-site that only can be accessed by IE. http://rein.mlxchange.com/5.4.03.22070/Login/BrowserError.asp


Please help!

There's no download on Apple's site since it is intended you keep the discs for as long as you have the computer since there do arise times when you (or the subsequent owner) need them, even years later. I don't think Apple likes us providing links to downloads on other sites, and it is possible X11 may be under the copyright protection thing. I recall seeing a version floating around the net several years ago. I don't know if there's any difference between the PPC and Intel version. Not a lot to go one but web search engines are your friend.


An alternative is to see if there's some hack that allows your own browser to tell the web site that it is IE6. I remember doing that many years ago with some other browser. Of course it may not work well, but sometimes when they say something is designed to work with such-and-such they are being overly picky. We used to use MLS with Firefox when we were looking for a house 2 years ago.

WineBottler is extremely old for the Wine world and seems to have been abandoned over a year ago.


You can run IE6 or IE7 easily using Wineskin.


Download Wineskin Winery, and have it get the latest engine (currently WS8Wine1.3.37) and the latest wrapper (Wineskin 2.5.3), then have it create you a new blank wrapper using those, and call it IE (or whatever)


Once that's made, right click your new IE app and select show package contents so you can find Wineskin.app inside (you can also run it automatically by holding down the fn key and running IE.app, or just running IE.app before anything is installed in it... but you have to go through "show package contents" to actually see where the app is).


Using Wineskin.app, go in it to Advanced, and to the Tools tab, and run Winetricks. In Winetricks go to , or use the search bar, for IE6 or IE7, and check them and run that... it should do a full install.


After Winetricks is finished with that, close it and go back to the Config tab in Wineskin.app and choose a Windows EXE... choose the iexplore.exe file that was installed under Program Files folder... once that's done your IE.app should work fine


Do note that IE under Wine is not perfect...


To the discussion over X11...

Wineskin has its own version built in (based off XQuartz)

Apple's X11 is quite old and shouldn't be used anyways... if you want the best X11 app for OSX, get XQuartz
