Is there a hard reset for the IPod

My IPod appears to be in the locked position (but the button is not locked) and it will not turn off. Is there a way of hard reseting the IPod or what other suggestions are there?

Toggle the hold switch, make sure you don't see any red mark at the switch.
Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON then release the butons.
Select your Language.

So, what if you IPod classic just says "charging, please wait" and has been for days hooked up to power, usb, everything. I try and do a reset and it just flashes off for a second and goes right back to this screen, no apple logo nothing. This thing has rarely been used so I don't understand what the problem is...

Stimple, please register a new post, on your charging problems, Keditay is asking how to hard reset an iPod and not charging.
