Importing from Panasonic HDC-SD90 to i-movie. Camera doesn't show up?
Camera correctly connected yet nothing happens. All I get when click on import is the 'Built in i-sight option' and nothing more? Help please.

Is camera plugged into wall power (not bateries only)?
Is camera set to "Play" (green)
An alternative way to import is to remove your SDHC Card and import from a card reader.
Doesn't help at all really. All I want to do is connect the camera to the mac and download.
Do you have any unused SDHC cards? If so, put one in the camera. Then use the Settings menu of the camera to Format the card. Then take a short movie with the camera, and try to import into iMovie.
If that works, we can work on trying to preserve the clips on your current card.
Thanks AppleMan. I've bought a card reader and when I click on import the contents of the card show up but only as circles with ared outer and a cross through i.e prohibited etc. The import all button is greyed out and will not import.
Let me know if you try it.
One other thought. Are you shooting 60P? iMovie does not support 60P. You will want to shoot 30P or 60i to work with iMovie.
You may need to find some external software that can convert 60P to 30P.
If you feel adventurous, some folks have hacked iMovie to make it work for 60P. Do so at your own risk.
A confession from the Hoplessly Inept. I finally worked out the problem by re-reading the manual. The HDC-SD90 has three recording formats; AVCHD, 1080/50p and iFrame. Unless one records in iFrame one cannot edit on a Mac. A lesson to be learned. My camera for some reason reason was set to 1080/50p. I managed to save the footage by downloading to a PC. The only issue now is whether iFrame is as good as AVCHD?
You can use AVCHD, just not in 50P. You can use 25P. Or you can use 50i. With iMovie, I recommend you stay with progressive rather than interlaced if possible.
I have a Panasonic that shoots AVCHD 60i and it works great in iMovie.
I have never used iFrame, so I can't comment on it.
I recommend you shoot some test footage and see which format you like best.
Thank you very much for your help. It has been invaluable. I did as you suggested. It does work in AVCHD. I shall experiment. Once again thanks for the time and trouble you have taken.
