The native calendar app on my iPad 1 with iOS5.0.1 shows no "+" sign to add events and it doesn't respond to tapping on the surface. Other apps respond normally. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Go to Settings>iCloud>Calendar>On. Toggle the on/off settings. If you use iCloud to sync the calendar, don't sync from your computer or you will get duplicate entries.
