DVD's ?? They are my back up choice. Would need a truck load of CD's.

Have actually given up on correcting 'MEDIUM WRITE ERROR' - just another Mac problem. Speeds and Verbatims ... honey, this problem is not year 1 technology but thanks for trying.

I'll regretfully stick with Time Machine and hopefully if my Mac is stolen again they don't take the external backup like they did last time - my stack of back up DVD's came in handy and yes, they were hidden in the garage and yes my Dobermann now has a flea in his ear!

I had the same problem and I had it working by doing the following two things.

1. Many people have been talking about the speed. I noticed the CD I had wrote 1x-4x on it so I lowered the setting to 2x. I suppose other CD/DVDs have similar limitations.

2. I kept the computer completely still on my table when it was burning the CD. I didn't use it at all. It seems like the burning would be interrupted if the CD-ROM is moved in a particular way, hence stop burning in the middle of the playlist and spit out an error.

I did try burning at a slower speed (2x), but it still has the "Medium Write" error...

I am now able to burn mucic to CD using Sony CD-R as suggested by SLCNAC JACK'S post above on 25/11/12.

DVD's are still no go ( tried different speeds ) even a mix of DVD-R brands ... same message. I would like to back up my Home Folder to DVD to max security but have now accepted this in not a possibility!

I'm Amazed. I read your reply. My computer didn't respond to the FO Command Option trick, but the pram clear and the English in the language thing, actually worked. For the first time in a year, I actually had a CD burn without a Medium Write error.. Thank you.

Adjusting burn speed down worked for me as well - changed from "fastest possible" to 16x and it worked.

Thank you!! This was extremely helpful and such an easy fix! I thought that decreasing the speed would make the time of all the songs to download longer but it didn't at all. The CD works great, thanks again!
