The Attempt to burn disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error.

When trying to burn a CD, I'm getting an error that reads:The Attempt to burn disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error. I experienced this message before and took my Macbook in to the store and the the genius was stumped but when he tried one of his CD's it burned fine to he concluded that the problem was in the CD's NOT the Macbook or program HOWEVER, months later, I'm having the same issue using the NEW CD's. Does anyone have any information about this?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Please I put a CD in after trying a few CD's using Verbatim and it started a dragging noise but I did get a medium write error the first time I tried with that dragging noise, and again it started dragging and it was Verbatim Cd's. I have made a lot of Verbatim CD's with no problem. How did you get your's work?

I've cleaned the drive, am using fairly high quality Taiyo-Yuden cdr's, reset the Pram, and even tried burning at the ridiculously slow speed of 4, but I keep getting this error. I burned another cd at maximum speed, only an hour ago, perfectly. Any other ideas?

Clearly, the problem has more than one cause and more than one solution.

My burn failed at 24x but worked fine at 12x.
