How to Identify iBook G4 Model (without power!)

Hello!

My older sister is willing to give me her iBook G4. I know it is old architecture, but heck, for free, I thought I could give it to my young son for his homework. She bought it new, but over the years she has lost the AC Battery Charger. I saw some AC Chargers on eBay, but they seem to be varied in terms of voltage and wattage. In order to get another charger, I need to know the iBook Model #. Ordinarily on my machines I would simply open "ABOUT THIS MAC"....But with out power, I am stuck....

Here is all I know about this iBook:

1) It says "iBook G4" under the screen

2) It has a 14.1" screen

3) It is white

4) It has a CD drive (slot) on the right side

That is about all I can tell....If I open it up, is there a Model # somewhere on the inside?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, Tom.

Yes, there should be a label on it either under the keyboard or in the battery bay which lists the serial number. This label will also have the original build of the iBook on it.

In addition to the serial number, the label will say something like "1.2/256/Combo." (Processor speed, logic board RAM, and type of optical drive.)

However, you don't really need to access this information, since all iBooks after the 500 MHz G3 use the exact same charging adapter. What works with one of these iBooks will work with any of them.

I prefer the Apple-style adapter with its ring that lights up to indicate charging status.

Others are usually a little cheaper.
