Q: iBook battery doesnt charge quickly

Hi,

I've got an iBook G4 Model and the battery literally trickle charges, as in if I leave it overnight it will charge the battery 12% more.

2 different batterys have been tried and ive replaced the DC in board but could this be the power adapter?

When its running on battery I get stats of Amperage -1038 (Assuming thats normal under usage?) and Voltage is 11531 and Cycle Count is 3 (this is the new battery in).

When the power adaptor is in the amperage only goes to 30.......I;m assuming it should be more than that to charge the battery sufficiently??

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It absolutely could be the adapter. We've worn out about six of them.

It is the most common failure next to the battery itself.

That said, have you tried resetting the PMU?

The PMU controls the charging function, so resetting it sometimes helps.

Hi Ronda and Thank You

I had tried that after searching about this problem and have just tried this again but to no avail.

I think the power adaptor could be the problem as it now only reads 18 amperage on charging which is surely not enough......

Adapter choices:

White Brick Style 45W Power Adapter M8482 (NEW) - Powerbook Medic

I prefer the brick style, since it has the glowing ring which indicates charging status, but you do pay a little more for it.

Is there much charging difference between a 45w and a 65w power supply?

No. The iBook will only take the charge it's designed for. There is no benefit to buying a 65-watt charger, nor is there a detriment.

Cool, It was originally a 65w charger but theyre about twice the price so will just get the 45w one......Thanks!!
