iTunes Match stuck on Step 2

Since adding a couple of new albums to my library, iTunes Match has been stuck on step 2 for more than 24 hours, having successfully checked everything except for these 25 new tracks. I've stopped and restarted the process several times. Any ideas?

There are currently problems for some users with Apples servers, which is causing Matching to stall. My advice would be to stop the process and try again later.

It is possible that you just have some problematic tracks, but I'd say it's quite unlikely. Some people have given advice about how to deal with this, if you want to have a read, but what you report is consistent with the general experience and I'd save yourself the bother if I were you.

I would report it to Apple though. The more reports that they get the better.

😮I don't know what happened but mine just finished!! 🙂 I only had 360 songs but mine has been stuch all night, I just purchased i match today. I did the same as every one else - stopped and started etc, and while I was reading the posts here I checked it and it was done. Wish I could tell you why. Maybe it has to do with how much music you have, Like I said I only had 360 and I would say it took about 4 hours.

Good luck to the rest of you!😉

Hey, try quitting iTunes and the computer. If it gets frozen, quit it with termanal's killall code (dispite the words kill all combine as a name, it only kills the app you specify afterwords (ex. killall iTunes and hit the enter key) if your windows use controll, alt, delete (or something like that, I don't use windows a lot.)

Hope this helps!

Also very very dissapointed from Apple, just subscribed to iTunes Match yesterday and can't go past Step 2, it scans some 4,000+ and never finishes, it just crashes and starts all over again, was really hoping to upload all my music but only some has been matched and the rest is stuck in my computer, I've read reports as far as when iTunes Match first came out, to think that this issue has not been addressed by Apple is really something to worry about, such is just not acceptable.. please give me my money back! #fml

After being exasperated by this for several weeks now I finally seem to have solved the issue. My problem was Step 2 being stuck with 72 files to go in a library of about 4500 files.

I hope this works for others.

  1. I backed up all my music files to an external drive
  2. I then deleted all my files and emptied the trash
  3. I then ran iTunes match...
  4. Guess what Stuck at Step 2 with 0 of 72 files left - there were no music files in my library
  5. I then adapted http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
  6. I deleted both the iTunes Library.itl & iTunes Library.xml (in the link it suggests moving the .xml file to the desktop to reimport later).
  7. I restarted the computer (to make myself feel better & make a cup of tea)
  8. I reopened iTunes - this forces iTunes to make a new .itl & .xml file
  9. I then ran iTunes Match and redownloaded (not imported the backups) from iTunes match
  10. So far...so good - no more stuck files - I am convinced there was a corruption of the .itl &/or .xml files and having followed the advice of the link above where you reimport the .xml file & the problem recurring I suggest in my case the .xml file was to blame.

I hope this helps others. iTunes - this is pretty poor for a paid service and needs work.

After struggling for ages I managed to fix this issue but backing up my library, deleting everything and then dropping everything back in and building a new library.

Then a few weeks later I had an issue where I couldn't change the Media Kind of a file once it had been matched. The file was an audio book and it seemed that there was no way to get it out of my music library without downloading extra software or turning off iTunes match, changing the Media Kind and then turning Itunes Match back on. I did the latter and worked fine but once Match was back on I had the same old problem it getting stuck with only a few songs left on Step 2.

So I managed to solve this after a lot of messing about. I did all the trouble shooting on here like reinstalling itunes, reseting permissions, deleting songs that werent syncing etc. None of them worked and I didn't want to go through the painful step of deleting the whole library and starting again. I noticed that there were 5 files left to go on Step 2 when it got stuck and I found by going down my library that there were 5 files greyed out with no download option. These 5 files were an audio book that I had moved to Books but the cloud seemed to think that they still existed and it was jamming Step 2.

I deleted them in Books and then dropped the 5 files back into itunes music. Itunes then listed them in the music section. I deleted the greyed out duplicates and that was it fixed!

So just check that you have no completely greyed out songs and if you do you need to drop them back into your library or somehow get them off the cloud (deleting them in iTunes doesnt work).

The more I read users having to do these heavy tricks to get Match to simply work, the angrier I get at Apple. How can a company making billions in profit have such a painful service as Match for years? I only signed up for Match 24h ago, and of course it is not working for me. I am really puzzled when I learn that the pain I am going through has been there almost since Match launched years ago.

Why Tim Cook is not firing the guy in charge of iTunes?

iTunes has always been the worst software Apple ever produced, and this Match service is just unbearable!
