How to set up Airport Extreme wireless router

Hello. I am trying to connect my Airport Extreme base station to my phone line connection.

From the phone line there is an ADSL filter which has a RJ11 output and phone modem. I purchased a RJ11 to RJ45 (Ethernet) and tried to plug into my router. The airport extreme doesn't recognise anything being plugged in!

My ISP is TalkTalk. This is a secondary router. Other one is a Netgear using downstairs phone modem.

Any help would be grately appreciated

In order to get an Internet connection via a DSL line, you will need (as a minimum) a DSL modem that has an Ethernet port to connect to a computer or router. Connecting a DSL line, even with a physical conversion adapter, will not replace the need for the modem.
