If you find out how to do this, please let me know. I lost 2 sites by following some advice I found here that said to delete your files to publish only the folders you want. Unfortunately, I didn't Command-Z. I just closed the window. I'm used to applications asking me if I want to "save". Low and behold, no such question. So I lost everything.

HELP!!!!!

Sorry, but you cannot recover your website to iWeb from a published folder.

The key to your iWeb website is a file called domain.sites, which lives here:
User / Library / Application Support / iWeb / domain.sites

If you are playing with your site and concerned about losing work then I would recomend creating a copy of this file prior to playing.
You can either use Copy & Paste, pasting it to another location. Or use a script, like the one in this thread.

Ok Tom, help me here. I created a completely new site, underneath an existing one in the site organizer, and published it to a folder. As it published, it appeared to be publishing pages from both sites. Yet, when I look at the folder I published to, only the new site appears--which is a good thing! What I would like to do now is open iWeb from a different user account on my computer, import the new site, and publish the new site to another .Mac account. I know I cannot publish to the old .Mac account without deleting my other site. Am I going wrong here?

Hopefully you have taken a look at Toms Tips on the domain file.

If you want to swap a site between user account and publish the same site to and different .mac account, then you need to move the domain file.

But if you want to publish the same site to a .mac account and a.n.other host (publish to folder) you can do this from the same user account, no need to swap.

I did read Tom's tips--just not sure I completely understand. You're saying I can publish the new site from the same user account in the machine, to a DIFFERENT .Mac account? I thought it would publish EVERYTHING in the site organizer. I've kept up with the threads on this one pretty well...just don't want to screw up my existing site. I'd like to understand this perfectly before I click that publish button.

Different approach.

You can publish multiple sites to .mac, using one using account, each site must have a different name (Dont leave them as "Site") otherwise they will overwrite one another.

When you publish multiple sites to one .mac account, your addresses become:
http://web.mac.com/yourUserName/iWeb/Site1
http://web.mac.com/yourUserName/iWeb/Site2 etc....

If you use the short address: http://web.mac.com/yourUserName
Then it is my understanding that the uppermost site in Site Organizer is the one that you will see. (and the last published if you swap domain files)

If you want to keep two sites seperately then you can do it through either user accounts or switch the domain files in and out (either manually or using something like Domains Juggler from Cyclosaurus).

Pressing publish should publish both sites, as long as the names are different.

To visit them (and determie the url), in iWeb select the site you want to view, and then click Visit.

Not at all, we are all here to help and learn 🙂

Two sites saved to two separate folders.

In the Site Organizer, you have two sites (with globes next to them), for arguements sake they are called Site1 & Site2.
These are both stored in your domain.sites file, as one file, not two.

To publish to .mac, after you have made any amendments to either site, just press the Publish button at the bottm of the screen.
You will now have two sites, who's addresses are:
http://web.mac.com/YourUserName/iWeb/Site1
http://web.mac.com/YourUserName/iWeb/Site2

Make sure that you type the W in iWeb as a capital.

These sites will appear in your iDisk, here:
iDisk / Web / Sites / iWeb / In this folder you should have two folders Site1 and Site2, and an index.html file.

As a side note, try not to put spaces in the site name as they are tranlated into %20, you are better off to use underscores. i.e. Site_1, Site_2. This can lead to problems as can putting spaces at the start of the site name.

Kepp the names unique and you will be happy, I now have 5 sites on one .mac! Too much playing and testing!

Well, Will, 🙂
With great trepidation the publish button got clicked! Everything is fine--no mixing or overwriting of the two sites. Two url's, two websites! Now I have to wonder why so many folks were complaining of troubles with publishing two sites...I guess it's failing to properly NAME the sites. Thanks for your help; you also Tom. Ya gotta love this Mac fam!
