I have a Altec Lansing ADA995 audio system that I'd like to enjoy with my 27" iMac. I can not seem to find a way to make this work. 'No software' for the USB 5.1 audio converters - yeah it's recognized by the Mac drivers @ 2.0 not 5.1

I'd like to supply an audio signal to my 5.1 system. I would like some kind of control over it, but I'm not having much luck. I've tried airport express to several devices. I've tried the 3-way splitter - no control, and a USB 5.1 Channel Audio Converter - I could get it only partially recognized in "Audio Devices" in the MIDI setup. There was no place or way to control the audio output from the iMac through or to the "USB output". There's got to be some other folks like me out there that love our music and have figured this out. Anybody?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Hello J R Lester,

I am in the same situation as you are with my Altec Lansing ADA 995 sound system. It was a wonderful set of speakers and sub-woofer when I had my old Dell 8250. I still have the tower and monitor and it still works but it runs so slow. I now have a late 2012 iMac 21.5 desktop. Like you and probably many others, it sure would be nice to figure out a way to get these speakers to work with iMac. With all the technology out there someone with sound system expertise can figure out a way to make this possible. I wonder if it could be set up using bluetooth technology? It would be some kind of device that would link up between the iMac and the Altec Lansing ADA 995 sound system. As it is the Altec Lansing get its power supply from the wall outlet receptacle. It's not like it drawing power from the iMac. Well, I'm sure you are frustrated as much as I am. I don't know if you have found a way yet or given up. In the meantime I will hold on to my Dell Sound System for awhile and see what happens. Hope to hear from you sometime. I'll keep an eye out for your response in Apply Support Communties.

Sincerely,

Chris
