I prefer my solution to that problem of site requiring IE.
I tell them where they can stick their site. So far they have always managed to find another solution that works for me without Windows. Most of the time snail mail but at least I avoid doing anything with Windows.

If the developers of the site insisted on using Microsoft-proprietary technology such that the site requires Internet Explorer, then your only solution will be to run Windows on your Mac, either via Boot Camp or one of the virtualization solutions (Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox) so you can run the Windows version of IE. There is no IE for Mac any more, hasn't been for years, and almost certainly is not coming back.
I run Windows on my system and it works fine; no "pollution" has occurred. In circumstances like this, it's often the only, or at least optimal, solution.
company who makes the program now has a iPad APP. Why put the money into an app but not have it available on safari.
You'd have to ask that company that question. It seems odd to me as well, but they obviously have a business reason for their decision.

Sadly the Government (local, state and federal) love IE, doubt that you'll get a sensible answer from them though.

On that note, I have done some reading in on running Windows and The overall view seems to be that Boot Camp is the best way to go. What about version of Windows. I feel Vista is out do to my general discontent on how it works but then again that is why I went Mac years ago.
Any suggestions would be great.
If you just want to access a website or 2 use Virtual Box, no need for Boot Camp.
So far I have managed to get them to do things in a way that I don't have to run Windows.
If you scream loud enough they will change. I find snail mail a better solution then Windows.

Not sure i would go that far but, well done if you managed to get agencies like the IDES, IDOT and others to change their habits, I get too frustrated and just end up yelling.
When I want to yell, I ask to speak to their manager instead. That tends to knock them off their high horse and I can recover while I am being transfered. It always best to try and keep them on the defensive.

Boot Camp requires rebooting of the Mac, really only necessary for getting the utmost performance out of Windows, such as for graphics-intensive applications, and totally unnecessary for just a few web sites. Use one of the virtualization solutions. VirtualBox is free, and so just would require a license for Windows. That'll be a lot more convenient.

You can set Safari to work in an Internet Explorer emulation mode.
Go to Safari>Preferences>Advanced tab and put a tick against 'Show Develop menu in menu bar', and then in Safari from the Develop menu>User agent select one of the Internet Explorer options.
I've never needed to use this facility myself but apparently it does often help with IE-only websites.
And in 99% of cases that won't work. Try it out before recommending it.
Thank you for that.
The fact is it can work - it did here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3548150?answerId=17133545022#17133545022
Maybe not 100% reliable but it did provide a solution on that occasion and it might have helped the OP here.
I concur with Paul; I've had far better than 1% success rate with Safari in spoof mode. More like 50% in fact.
I have 3 browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Safari) loaded on my computer. I use them alternately for no reason other than I like to change my environment now and then.
FYI, it did not work in spoof mode. I have decided to dig out an old G5 ~ maybe G4 and install the old IE on there. Really do not want to F#%$ my iMac for a work related thing. Honestly, who only programs for IE. But once using the program it makes sense, you have to click 100 things to do one thing and no functionally easy way to search without the 100 clicks.
Good luck, Josh. Internet Explorer for Mac has always been a completely different animal than Internet Explorer for Ms Windows; they really should have given it a different name. It was actually quite a bit better than the Windows version, back in, say, 2001, but since it hasn’t gotten a significant update since then (and presumably never will), it probably won’t work any more than any other browser would.
Basically, the real problem is that Microsoft decided to undiscontinue the Windows version of IE, in the first place. 😉
I just tried this to troubleshoot how IE displays differently then the rest of the browsers.
It's using Opera to emulate IE, and it really helped me, hope for you too:

get the Opera browser www.opera.com here is how to use it, when you go to a website, that needs IE right click on the page and go to edit site preferences a window will open and go to network, at the bottom it should have a spot that says identify browser or browser identification and select identify as internet explorer or mask as internet explorer
