smart playlists not syncing properly

Apparently they don't on this version. Hopefully will be sorted as it's a pain in the ***.

Every time they update their iOS or iTunes, I complain about it, and each time I (falsely) believe that they will do something about it!

Apparently not with the latest updates (iTunes 10.6 and iOS5.1).

One work-around is to uncheck Live Updating for the smart playlists you want to sync, and recheck it when you no longer want to sync it, or to update it between syncs.

I have had this problem for some time.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a fix.

I recommend submitting a bug report to Apple here: bugreport.apple.com.

Hopefully Apple will fix it promptly because I too am becoming frustrated with this problem.

In what way are they not syncing properly?

Specifically the problem for me, I have a podcast smart playlist with live updating turned on that's supposed to sort by Date Published. If I turn on live updating, it sorts by Date Added on the iPhone rather than what it's supposed to and what iTunes shows as the correct order.

I can't see a Date Published field in Smart Playlists.

If you supply the detail of your Smart Playlist and perhaps someone can work out what the problem is.

The only settings for the smart playlist are Media Kind = Podcast and Play Count = 0.

The sorting is done in the actual playlist view itself by clicking the sort bar. Every other setting works (That I've tried) except Date Published, which is the only one that matters to me. Doing Date Published makes it sort by Date Added, which is exactly backwards because Itunes downloads podcast back episodes last to first.

If I turn off Live Updating, it sorts correctly.
