I'm sorry to be so naive...my first time on this discussion board...and truly... I should have clicked correct answer as that was the right call. Thank you for your time.
You can also use a "gesture" on the trackpad to reveal all windows of whichever application is frontmost. You can even do it for applications that are not frontmost by just hovering your cursor over the application in the dock and swiping your fingers. Mine's set up to do it with four fingers downward. This is configured in System Preferences, Trackpad, More Gestures, "App Expose". When you're in app expose, you will sometimes see a row of icons at the bottom showing you a history of recent documents.

Using MacBook Pro 2007, I left click and hold on the Safari icon in the dock. The screen changes to show all open windows, not just a list but actual images. Very helpful.
