I have connected with an Ethernet cord and my new MacBook pro finds my old but my old is still looking for other computers? I have restarted several times and can not seem to connect the two computers?

Thank you, I have followed these instructions. When I restart the source computer holding the "t" key I get the fiewire symbol bouncing around. And then the new Mac can't find the old? When I just close all programs on the source computer and open the migration assistant and follow the prompts the new computer sees old and old just keeps searching for new?
