Volvo Ipod adapter

Recently I bought the Volvo Ipod adapter for my Volvo S60, to be adapted to the standard Volvo audio system. This is a big, major disappointment. No only there is a constant high pitched noice in the background (as if I am the dentist!), much more disappointing is that all information on my Ipod is hidden behind a screen which appears when connecting saying: "Volvo for life". The bizarre thing is you only can use your playlists, and they can only be seen at the radioscreen as #1, song 26 etc. Can anyone believe this?! Volvo builds great cars, but I am sorry, this is a ridiculous product for which I was invoiced €299.95 (Netherlands, inclusive labour). A complete waste of money, and the quintessential denial of why we want to have and enjoy our Ipod.

The high pitch "dentist drill" you hear is because there is a ground loop in the system. This means the volvo adapter is not grounded to your car stereo. Who ever installed it needs to re ground it. That will stop the squeal and when you step on the gas it won't get higher and higher. I agree the adapter is not the best. But it is still better than a cassette or fm mod. Volvo needs a better system for $300 I agree.

The 5th generation seems to freeze up, and the ipod gets stuck on pause. When turning off the engine and then turning the car back on. Sometimes it works fine. Other times it freezes. The one benefit for others who have this adapter, Is when it freeze's sometimes the screen will say "Charged" instead of "ok to disconnect" at that point you can use the ipod itself and do not have to use the playlists on the radio, which is kind of great!!! Is this a fluke? or has anyone else noticed this. I'm guessing maybe its a problem with the pin set up in the new ipod.

I also have the adapter in my UK XC70. My initial disappointment came when I read the technical brochure - but if you do that then you know the display limitations before you buy, andit still seemed worth it especially when you can just sort a few playlists and hit RND.

I do have a problem though. My wife's iPod mini works perfectly, but when I plug a 20GB iPod (version 3.1) in it doesn't get past the "ok to disconnect" screen. This iPod is the one with all the good music! UK Volvo dealers are no help.
Any ideas anyone? What versions of iPod software have people made to work with their Volvo?

we experience the same problem. I am standing in the Volvo Dealership in Toronto, where they tell me that they need to do more research.
Running version 3.1.1 in Model M9282LL (20 GB).
I have upgraded the software via downloads, but not sure what version it was when the Volvo Adapter was first installed, and worked as expected.

The documentation with the Volvo Adapter in the Firmware Compatibility section speaks of 4th generation iPod - Version 3.0.2 as being "confirmed to work with".. and goes on to say " Please note that future versions of iPod firmware may adversely affect the functionality of the iPod adapter and that the iPod adapter cannot be updated to support such future firmware releases"

The technician at Volvo feels that the symptoms are not related to the firmware version 3.1.1. that we have.. and is awaiting an update from Volvo. I have my doughts and may see if I can get the firmware back to version 3.0.2 to check if the behaviour changes.

I just had a adapter installed in my XC70 and using a 60Gb Video Ipod for getting MP3 into my Volvo.

This only works on the Volvo radio with 10 playlists (numbers 1 tot 10) as if the playlists are CD's into a CD changer.

The only problem is that after a coldstart the Ipod always starts with Playlist one / number one User uploaded file (I realy getting tired of clicking forward in the playlist with 9000 songs)

It seems there is no resume function in the Ipod with the Volvo adapter

Does everybody has this problem?

Also I don't see the Volvo logo when connected.

Hi,

I'm having the following problem:

My 60Gb Video iPod is connected to the HU-850 in my V70, using the standard Volvo-dealer supplied interface.

The first couple of weeks everything worked well. Even the resume function as described in siepje's post above. Also when choosing disc 10 on the radio, I was able to choose a song using the iPod-wheel.

But after a couple of weeks problems occured (No configuration changes were made in between).

When starting the car, the iPod is not responding. I have to disconnect and reconnect the iPod again. Then the iPod is playing well.

When choosing Disc 10, the iPod cannot be enabled anymore. I cannot choose the songs on the iPod itself.

After the probles occured, I installed the latest firmware on the iPod. But no improvements.

Anyone with good idea's?

Regards,
Jeroen
