Im having trouble making bookmarks

In order to make a bookmark the help suggets I select text and click the + button in the inspector, but no matter what text I select, in a new text box or existing one, the + is greyed out.

Also Im not able to change the colour of hyperlinks fromt he default colour in the template via the styles palette - also greyed out - is this by design?

Ive made hyoperlinks also and (a) they dont appear to function (b) you cannot make a hyoperlink without having the linked object named and this name MUST follow the pattern "Link Type /chapter name/ numeral/ user text" which is quite annoying if you are trying to just have a little button. ANyone else found these issues?

Ive still not been able to create a bookmark!

I spent an hour going crazy so I'm sorry to say that I'm glad I'm not the only one. I COULD NOT get any sort of bookmark or link to work--the + - buttons remain greyed out.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth and all (it is a free app and brand new as well) but you've got to wonder how something like this got past quality control...

I hope they fix it soon, iBooks Author is perfect for a project I was about to start but now I won't have to make an app.

Triology, I just cannot get a bookmark to work. I can select any text anywhere in any section, paragraph or page, but the + button remains grey.

I can make a hyperlink, but of course I can't make a bookmark to direct it to.

Off topic: Also, my text flow is not working between text boxes. I get the little + sign at the bottom centre, but I cannot get it to 'lift' the text below.

Quite a few bugs I'd say.

Let's hope the engineers can get these sorted fairly quickly.

I too am having troubles with hyperlinks and bookmarks. My situation is that I am trying to use an interative image widget with a map and hyperlink the text in the description bubbles to a page with more information about the place being viewed. I can get a bookmaker entered on a normal page, but not a section or chapter page. And I can get a hyperlink made in an ordinary text box but not the interactive ones in the widget.

I agree with the above being a new product and all but Apple usually seems to be alittle more on then ball then this. Looking for an update from Apple for a host of these issues and hopefully soon.

Ive narrowed down the issue to this: you can only bookmark text in a supplied body copy text box, in a section.

If you make your own text box you cannot make a bookmark

If you try to use chapter headings or other text boxes you cannot make a bookmark.

Its very limited and it essentially means you cannot make a "button" which allows you to jump to another section.

Hyperlinks too are very limited in function. You can only hyperlink to text, not objects (in widgets you must hyperlink to the title or caption) and the text style cannot be changed.

After sadly reading these responses I found a way to make it work. I had created the blank template for a page and entered some text, and was unable to make it a bookmark. I then changed the format to one of the other options (using the disclosure triangle next to the page in the layout side panel). I typed something into the blank field it gave me, and that IS bookmarkable.

Hope that helps someone,
