hideous noise, no processor control via CHUD for 10.6.8

The (power supply?) noise is driving me insane. I have read numerous fixes based around CHUD control of the processor but after installing it and getting the processor icon in my Hardware Preferences I do not have any control for enrgy saving or nap, just over the number of processors which are listed as 4, one of which is ticked but not active, the others can be un-ticked if desired.

My OS is 10.6.8, the Mac is 2x2.66.

I am getting tinitus from this thing so any help would be great.

A Mac Pro that is operating correctly does not emit any high-pitched noises. You may have some blown diodes in that power supply. Software tweaks can't fix that.

Thanks for the suggestion but even Apple have a page for what may be the root of the problem (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2033) but it refers to Energy Saver controls that I do not seem to have access to.

As that tech note article refers to pre-Mac Pro it probably doesn't really apply.

G5 is not Mac Pro, was IBM PowerPC series (2003-5, with "early 2006" being the last of Quad G5 PCIe
