zero bytes folder after permissions change

I have a bit of a long story relating to itunes. I won't go into the gory details, however during the process of reinstalling my itunes folders after making a mistake whilst moving my itunes library to an external hdd, I wanted to change the permissions on the music folder to read/write. I tried to do this through pathfinder. The result now is I have a folder that reads 0 bytes (7files) and I cannot access it. Whay did this happen and how can I get back to seeing all of my files.

Thanks

Hey Linc

Thansk for this, your reply was very helpful. I was able to add myself to the permissions list, for some reason until I obtained ownership rights it would not allow me more than read rights. This changed to read/write once i had ownership. I also ensured that the everyone group had read/write. There is a 'system' user. I have a couple of questions.

1. Why did i need ownership to gain read/write ?

2. Who is this system user ?

Thanks
