Current page and previous via back button still present on iOS safari after clear history/cache/cookies in app itself and in settings - how to clear completely?

The current page being displayed and the previous pages are still available on iOS edition of Safari even after clearing history, cache and cookies is done in the app itself and in the settings.

I would expect the safari display to be blank and certainly the back button to be disabled to indicate no previous pages (after all - the history should have been cleared for goodness sake!)

Is there a way to properly clean it totally so no back button access to previous pages and no current page.

iPod touch, iOS 5.0.1

Try removing Safari from the list of recently used Apps (multitasking tray) first before resetting the cookies, caches, and history.

To do this double tab the Home button and then tap and hold your finger over the Safari icon until a small red minus sign appears in its upper right hand corner. Tap this to remove the App. Then blow away the history, cookies, and cache.
