How do I take high-resolution photos with iPhone 4S?

I've taken a few photos - with front and back cameras - but when I import them into iPhoto, they are only 640 x 480. What gives? They should be higher resolution than that, shouldn't they?

I've searched through settings to see if there's a way to set the resolution from the Camera app, but I don't see anything.

All pics taken with the back camera are 8MP.

All pics taken with the front camera are 640x480.

No way to change either.

The back camera always takes hi res photos. I suspect it's iPhoto that's converting to low res. I recently imported a photo from my 4s into iPhoto and it was 2448 x 3264. Are you sure you're using the Camera app and not some third-party app?
