Hi,
i currently have a lot of films stored in Video_ts format. I'd prefer to leave it in that format but my Ipad cant read it.
Is there anything that i can do to enable i can play the files without losing quality of picture and sound or will i have to convert them to another format, and if so what program is best to use?

I'm presuming these are MPEG-2 files, usually when someone refers to Video_TS folders. ProPlayer is one possible option:

but if you search the iTunes Store for "MPEG-2" you may find others.

Thanks, would i have to look specifically to look for apps that work on ipad and macbook air or would any app for one suit the other?

You would need apps specific to each. You cannot run iOS apps on your MacBook nor vice-versa.
On your MacBook, DVD Player, included on your system, should be able to handle any such files.
