Clearly my Apple ID works as I'm typing this now, but the App store won't accept my password from this Mac. I can access the App store with my Apple ID through my iPad2, though.
Any thoughts?

Accessing these forums is somewhat different for your Apple ID since a payment method is required for the App Store. I see that you can access the iOS app store on your iPad but try this...
Try "resetting" your Apple ID password > Apple - My Apple ID
Restart your Mac, try logging in to the App Store.
If you still have problems, quit the App Store.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.appstore.plist
Move the Cache.db file from the com.appstore.plist folder to the Trash.
Try again.
its been down since 21:40 its not your system, two macs four iphones and a windows machine cant get onto it.
aplle wont confirm the itunes store/App store login process has an issue (they never do) neither will they say when its down lots of people are reporting thisa
Yes, but I can log in and make purchases via the ipad2 so I don't see it as an account issue.
I don't see anything regarding the App store in the Cache folder.
I'm going to say you're right based on:
• I can't access itunes now
• Although I can browse and even purchase an app on the App Store with the ipad2, the app doesn't download.
It's up in the USA. But down elsewhere saying network connection lost. Think apples international routers are down
I'm in Delaware and I get the connection lost message with itunes.
I cannot Sign In on iTunes or iPad 2. I assume it's server related.
I haven't been able to get in either. I contacted the app support and they tried to tell me it was me (iPad, 2 iPhones and iMac--none of which can connect either with Fios wifi, hardline or 3G)--so I powered everything down, and half an hour later, still no connection.
Basically--Apple should know--so hopefully they are fixing it.
You're right. Apple is probably fixing the issue as we speak.
I'm not going to try to edit any Keychains or go into any weird folders. I'm sure that this is not an issue that can be delt with on our personal computers.

As of 6:38 Pacific Apple Time (Cupertino), I can't log in either. My error message: "An unknown error has occurred"

Seems to be working now.
I am on an iMac and have had some promblems over the past few days trying to update from the App store. When I log in I get a 404 unknown error and can't accsess to update it, is it down.
