Unknown Backup on MacBook Pro taking up a lot of Space

I was checking the storage on my MacBook Pro and there are over 32GB allocated for Backups. I haven't setup any locale back up so I am not sure where this came from. Anyone know where this would come from and how I can get rid of it?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

that is referring to "local Snapshots". To instantly get rid of them and stop them, open terminal and type "sudo tmutil disablelocal" (without the quotes) and press enter. It will prompt you for your admin pw. Press enter again and quit terminal. Check your storage to confirm.
