Google chrome is a web-browser, just like Safari. If you are happy with Safari there is no need to install Google chrome, it is not necessarily better. You may want to install it to try it and see which of the two you prefer. Another browser which is popular and which you may like to try if you are thinking of changing your browser is Firefox.

Google chrome is fast and no doubt tests have been conducted and depending on the procedures and processes used some tests will show Google chrome to be faster than Safari and other tests will show Safari to be faster than Google chrome. For all practical purposes and in normal day-to-day use I think you are unlikely to notice much difference between the two, or indeed between either of them and Firefox.

But yes, you're right - IE is perceptibly slower!!!!

With the possible exception of IE (which you don't have to worry about), any browser is as safe as the person using it. Since you're the same person, the browsers are going to be pretty equal from a security standpoint.

As for performance, the are both based on the same WebKit core, so the differences are likely to be in memory utilization and JavaScript execution.

Tom's Hardware recently ran an extensive browser comparison where Safari was crowned the Mac winner, but personal preference plays a part, too. Personally I use Safari for 99% of what I do.
