Address Book

Mac address book. I change my name and one other name in the address book, but it always ends up reverting back to my original name. WHY?? and how do I make a permanent name change?

iMac (20-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Open address book.

Click name.

Click edit.

Change name.

Name shows changed in address book.

Now here's where I lose track a little, but I think the address book reverts to the old name when the computer is rebooted, but that has not been confirmed and it does not explain why my name reverts as that old name is not linked to the computer.

That does sort of explain it, generally when it holds until a reboot or restarting the App it means a borked pref file.

Tough to tell, could be any one of these...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.AddressBook.sync.001ec2 0c2851.plist

Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist

I'd backup these files, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.

For Address Book, quit AB...

Files...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist

Folders...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/

Then trash the Originals, we can always get back to zero if you have backups.
