I have the iphone4, I keep getting mailer daemon messages, returning emails that won't go through that I didn't send. I change my email password incase I was hacked, but I'm still getting failed emails that I didn't send. Is it a virus? What do I do?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

If this helps, this has recently happened to one of my e-mail addresses, fortunately it wasn't a primary account but nonetheless it was an e-mail account I use regulary. I started getting the exact failure notices you are getting, literally hundreds every day to addresses I didn't know. I tried to mark as many as I could as junk and placed filters on them so they would go directly to junk but they just seemed to mutate. Anyway last week, I could no longer get into that account, it kept asking for the password which it continually rejected, I then received an e-mailI from my broadband provider with whom my e-mail accounts are associated to advise my password had been changed. I called my provider and they believed my e-mail account had been either 'spoofed' or indeed 'hacked' as they now appeared to have control of my account. Fortunately they were able to reset the password at their end and then for me to be able to go in again and change the password. My advise would be is change your password now before they take control of your account and lock you out if you want to keep the e-mail address you have been using. Hope this helps.

Sounds like your being hack? uhm... Doubtful...

Sounds like your typing a invalid email address and it is sending you a response the message is not going through if anything.

Take a screenshot and post it so we can confirm this or get a better idea of what is going on.

If it appers like this.

Then your just sending it to a invalid email address, and the server is letting you know it couldnt be sent.

I don't know how to take a screen shot, but it doesn't look like the one you posted in the body of the message, it is actually an ad. It is sending messages to every new and old contact I've ever emailed to. Need to know my options, delete my email address and start over ( really don't want to do this if I don't have to, to many contacts that I would have to notify of my new email) or malware/antivirus software? HELP!!! This is just embarrassing!!! People keep sending me messages that I have a virus! I need help! Thanks for any and all ideas.

So there is nothing I can do? What about deleting my email address and starting over with a new email account? I want this to be my last resort because i'll have to send everyone I email to my new address. What a pain! I am worried that it's malware or virus! I've never had this happen before when on a PC, but then I always had Norton or AVG on my old PC's. When I got the iPhone I was told with IOS's, you didn't need an antivirus program. I'm at a loss and really appreciate any and all responses.

I changed my password to my email and check about 3 hours later and had about 8 more mailer daemon returns. I wonder if these were just slow returns from the actual time that they (whom ever) did it, because I have not gotten any today from mailer Daemon. Maybe it worked? Do you think and anti virus program would have helped? I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help. If you have any other suggestions please don't hesitate to post!!

That is a very interesting comment, I wonder why iOS doesn't require antivirus software? I guess if I was more computer savvy I would understand. Thanks for your input, I guess I won't worry unless I get a bunch more mailer daemon messages. And maybe I should change my email password more often, oh the unknown! Thanks for your help.

Well, that's a good thing! Plus for me!!! I really appreicate all your help. So you don't think I really need to worry about these emails that were sent out? Since yahoo changed my password and I reset the password there haven't been any new emails sent out except for about maybe 8, but I think those were just stragglers, so to speak.

You're welcome. Since you have changed your password and not receiving any further e-mails I think you are pretty OK. Since I changed by password and regained control of my account I haven't received a single one and mine where exactly like yours, including the ads you mentioned. I''m sure you'll be fine, just remember to change your password regularly. Good Luck.

This is what the mailer daemon looks like:
