Which model iMac do you have? Only certain iMac's support the Target Display Mode feature which allows the iMac to act as a display. To further complicate matters, the most recent Thunderbolt enabled iMacs support the Target Display Mode feature, however they only work with other Thunderbolt enabled products.

Here's an article that provides more information about Target Display Mode:

If you have the prior generation 27-inch iMac's (known as Late 2009 or Mid 2010 models) then you can purchase a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter to connect your PS3 to the iMac's mini-DisplayPort port. Here's an example of the type of cable/adapter you need. There are probably other options too.

If you have the current generation iMac then I am not aware of any adapters that would work, although it's possible that someone else may know of a solution.

Very nice answer 🙂

My model is 21.5", medio 2011 , (it says so in specifikations) , i bought it late last year , also i bought a mini-display adapter to hdmi , then realized it was a thunderbolt i need .. lol .. np im going back tomorrow to trade it for a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter .. in the link u pasted in your post , it says "both mac computers" in the discription how-to , i guess thats only an example , but it could be device + mac instead of mac + mac ?

Thanks
