My macbook A1226 macbook pro recently started acting up. The screen display's but it is very dark. The DVI output works fine.
I tried other known working screens, and it still has the same symptoms. The computer doesnt turn on unless the battery is in the computer ( with or without the ac cord attached).

Regarding your display issues - MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues. The affected computers were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008.

not sure how this answers the question of it not turning on

Your post indicated that you have been turning on your computer without the battery and you stated that your "display is very dark."
