Q: Sending mail issue: photos and iCab links

I'm having an issue with sending links from the iCab browser and sending pics from my photos. I send links from Safari regularly and have never has a problem, but in both these recent episodes, the outbound mail just stayed parked in my outbox in spite of repeated attempts to send them. I did get one dialogue box informing me that my smtp server might be configured incorrectly, but the configuration has worked for 18 months other than these two incidences.

iPad, iOS 5.0.1, 32G with 3G

Who is your ISP? Who is your e-mail provider? What port are you sending out of? Is SSL on or off?

You can try changing it to port 2525, and see whether that makes a difference.

    Turn off SSL.

Add a third incident of sendmail stalling; all three happened when connected over 3G. Mail provider is embarqmail.com; port is set to 110. SSL is off.

These are defaults that haven't been tampered with since the device was set up in June of 2010. I have sent a lot of mail in 3G mode.

The latest stall resolved itself after I put a hard reboot on the tablet.

Do Apple Stores have hardware diagnostics they can run on my iPad to determine incipient hardware failure?

Do you have an AT&T or verizon ipad? I would take it to them for resolution. Your SIM card may need to be reseated. Are you getting any error messages?
