Apr 15, 2013 12:44 AM in response to SMB34by missmewastaken,TO ALL OF YOU...
I was moving videos out of the Photo Booth folder when this happened to me... I found another discussion where they suggested to go check the actual permission of the user... The person actually described the whole path to get to Photo Booth's original location (**See bottom for full post) BUT that can also be done by right clicking the icon, showing in finder and then getting info. The user has to have read AND write. I already did so that didn't work for me but it might for you...
What worked was when Ralph Jones wrote : ''The issue could be that the .plist has "lost" where to send the pics for saving. As we know with iChat deletion of some .plists may bring back the correct function.''
It made me realize that my Photo Booth had maybe losts it's way... So I fallowed the path that the user had given in the first article (**See bottom for full post) to get to the original location (macintosh hd/users/your_user/pictures/"photo booth") and just clicked on it... And voilà!!!
What had happened was that when I was moving my videos, I most probably clicked on the Photo Booth Library icon in my picture folder in my user WHICH changed it's opening path setting or something... Either way, IT WORKED!!!
Hopes this helps someone...

check your photo booth folder permissions
macintosh hd/users/your_user/pictures/"photo booth"
I've had a number of the machines at my building have that folder's owner become blank or change to system.
once you have the folder selected in the finder go to
File->"Get Info"
and if your user isn't listed as the owner with
read & write
privileges then click the + to add your user and/or change your privilages then try to take a picture in photobooth.
