Are you using iBooks 2 app on your iPad?
Same problem here:
Any help appreciated
Have you tried restart iPad?
Have you tried restart iTunes?
Have you tried restart your Mac?
Should work after one of these, in order.
My problem was solved by installing iBooks 2. I didn't realise I needed a new version of iBooks. Looked in App Store in my Updates - low and behold she was waiting for me in there.
I have rebooted the Mac and everyting else. Problem is maybe the ipad is jailbroken, regular iBooks just crashes every time so using a fixed version from Cydia, might not be version 2- based. No idea how to find out though, so a bit stuck :(
Oh, if you jailbreak then anything is possible. I typically don't jailbreak on my production/development machine.
Can you restore back?
I had the same problem. When I clicked on Preview, my iPad which was connected by USB and seen by my mac on iTunes wasn't in the list.
My problem was solved by upgrading iBooks to version 2 and having iBooks open to the bookshelf. Then when I clicked preview it automatically opened a "Proof" of the book on my iPad.
Hardware:
iPad (version 1) 16Gb running iOS 5.0.1
iMac 24inch early 2008 running Lion 10.7.2
I have tried all of these possible solutions. I have iBooks 2 and everything else is up to date. I'm not sure why it's not working.
I was able to get mine working with the latest version of iTunes reinstalled. iTunes 10.5.3 evidently has some element in it that enables the iBook Author to show the proof on the iPad with ibooks 2
Thanks for all the replies!
Thanks jonbrad22 for saving me lots o' hours. I would swear I downloaded iTunes already today, but whatever…now the preview works!
Yep! Updating iTunes and then restarting everything got it up and running!
Thanks jonbrad22 🙂

Hi Everyone,
I am facing same problem that could not preview in iPAD (snapshot below).
I am using MAC OS 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5.3 and iPAD2 version 5.0.1. And download the latest iBooks (updated on 3 FEB) on iPAD.
My iPAD sync but could not show any preview of iBooks Author files. I have repeatedly try but stuck everytime.
Please do help into this. Am I missing anything??
Thanks in advance.
Amit
Make sure that you cable is plug in, or plug in tight. Can you confirmed your iPad can sync with iTunes?
If not, restart your iPad and iBooks Author.
Thanks for response,
Yes, it is connected because it is showing charging symbol on top right and automatically opened iTunes.
And I restarted iPad and IBooks as well many times but no result.
Try closing iTunes or remove the iPad from iTunes. If you iPad can sync with iTunes, it should sync with iBooks Author.
