Q: Can Aperture play QuickTime VR movies?

I converted my iPhoto Library to Aperture and then figured many movies wouldn't play...

now I figured out the reason: they are mostyl QuickTime VR movies..

is there a way to convince Aperture to play those?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

    Hello Micheal,

here is a list of video formats supported by Aperture: not all Quicktime compatible formats are supported.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4025

But you can use Quicktime to browse the videos in your Aperture Library using the Media Browser.

    • Launch Quicktime and select "File -> Open"
    • In the File Chooser window look at the bottom of the Sidebar and click "Movies"
    • wait .... and then click on "Aperture", when it finally appears; then select your video and play it in Quicktime.

    Regards

    Léonie

Unfortunately the QuickTime VR (panorama) technology is very old - and not supported any more as far as I know.

I also have a very large collection of these amazing videos. And I have never seen any replacement.

The only application I know which supports QTVR very well is nessViewer. You might contact them - as far as I know they respond very quickly and are very much interested in "old stuff" (sorry :-) like this.

And there if a forum which seems to be interested as well.

With Mavericks and 64 bit QuickTime (aka AV Foundation) I can not even convert / watch these videos. I will post a new discussion to get help - hopefuly...
