Q: itunes store will not load in 10.5.3.3

I could access the iTunes store with version 10.4.x.x but after upgrading to 10.5.3.3, the store will not load.  The progress bar at the stop center goes half way and then after 30 seconds stops with no error message.  The screen simply says "iTunes Store" but no graphics or search results are returned.  I also do not get the iTunes Store tabs across the top of the screen.

I just found a fix that has worked for many other users with the same 10.5.3.3 issue and it fixed a seperate issue where Apple Mobile Device service drives up CPU by 50-80%.

The fix is to open a command prompt as an Administrator and run c:\netsh winsock reset     After running this commad you will need to reboot.

    Here is the orginial article:http://www.thebambers.me.uk/wordpress/?p=316

Although my account is the only Windows 7 account and is an Administrator, I still could not run the command above.  I first had to open a Command Prompt as an Admistrator:

    1) From the main Windows icon (bottom left Windows Flag), select All Programs

    2) Then select Accessories

    3) Then right mouse click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

    4) execute "netsh winsock reset" and reboot

After performing the steps above, iTunes Store is working great and the CPU with iTunes loaded is averaging less than 10%....A MIRACLE!!!!

My wife just downloaded it on her MacBook with similar results. Although the wireless shows to be connected anything related to the network either fails to function or functions sporadically. I sure wouldn't download this puppy until they get it fixed.

I've been trying to do the famous netsh winsock reset, and every time, I get this message in the Command Prompt window:

" 'netsh' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3

The command prompt window opens with C:\WINDOWS>

    Thanks

I have a Windows XP Professional (SP2) computer and "netsh.exe" is in the c:\windows\system32 directory.  The system32  directory should be in your path but if not, go there manually and try the command.

You can also execute the command "netsh winsock reset" in seperate steps

    1) c:\windows\system32\netsh

    2) netsh>winsock

    3) netsh winsock>reset

If this doesn't work, search the whole C: drive for "netsh.exe" and execute from the directory you find it in.  This fix was primarily listed as a Vista/Windows 7 articles.

    Thanks for your reply, admkauda.

I am unfamiliar with how to use the command prompt window.  When I went there and tried to enter variations of windows\system32\, etc. (tried different backslashes, etc.), I just kept getting " '(whatever I entered)' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

I tried searching the C drive for netsh.exe with no luck, but found netsh associated with c:\windows\I386  and a netshell.dll associated with c:\windows\system32

It may be that I am just too computer illiterate to follow the instructions, but I appreciate your attempt to help me!

    Thanks

you need to type 'cd.." hit return and "cd.." again until you navigate backwards to the c:\ prompt.

just as typed above the two ".." are needed.  "cd"=change directory

BTW this fix didnt work for me although I ran the executable file

Tried the winshock reset and it did not work.  Had to downgrade back to 10.4.1 by uninstalling "Apple Application Support", "Apple Mobile Device Support","Bonjour", and "Itunes".

    After re-starting and re-install Itunesx64 10.4.1, I restored the old "Itunes Library.itl" file from \My Music\Previous Itunes Library\ to \My Music\Itunes\

All done....I guess we'll have to wait for version 10.6 to fix this.

THANK YOU!  If I didn't read this post my laptop would of probably melted and caught on fire.  After I updated to iTunes 10.5, I noticed that my laptop was getting abnormally hot.  I only made the connection when I noticed that iTunes Store was not loading.  So I did a google search and found my way to this thread and that is when I discovered that iTunes was using 50% of my CPU.

I followed the instructions and the problem was resolved.
