Do you have a web base email addres like Yahoo?
check in your sent folder. And change your password.
There are viruses like that, and they originate commonly in the e-mail of of someone who sent you e-mail, or further back in the chain. That way if a recipient of mal-mails blocks you, that block does nothing, really.
Changing your password breaks the chain that the mal-ware created.
yes AOL
That makes no sense whatsoever. Changing your password helps when someone has hacked your account. That has nothing to do with malware. And there's no Mac malware currently in existence that e-mails itself to other people in your Address Book.
Well then more then likely someone has hacked your AOL account. Go there and change your password.
This is a web-based virus in your email and cannot be controlled on the Mac.
Someone has undoubtedly hacked your AOL account. AOL is a common target, probably because of a large number of technically unsophisticated users who use simple passwords. When you change your password, make sure it's good... use a mixture of upper and lower case and add at least one numeral.

My friends are all getting spam from my e-mail address!

a 12 character password has been found to be the mimimum ideal length to deter hackers.

That also makes no sense. I don't even know what a "web-based virus in your email" would be. C'mon, folks, we don't need to be spreading FUD through misinformation, here!
It has something to do with the OP's email account. It has nothing to do with the Mac, is what I'm trying to say.
Ok, I changed my password on any web based e-mail accounts that I have. Is there a recommended spyware/malware/trojan/virus protection software I should be using? I didn't think I needed one with my mac.
You don't need any sort of "protection" on your Mac. The "virus" (if it even was a virus) was never on your Mac. Anti virus software on the Mac often does more harm than good.
ok, thank you all so much for taking the time to help me.

Fair enough.
