Every time Safari opens? Or your Mac turns on?
There is no native sound with Safari opening.
What does it sound like? What other internet apps do you have on there?
I get the sound every time I open Safari.
It's a big organ cord followed by tinkling chimes. Visually its a chrome apple, then chrome words "Welcome to Safari" and then the Safari compass. The swelling cord comes with the apple and then chimes with the compass.
Wow!
Did you add any Safari extensions on there? Any other apps for the internet on there?
No safari extensions (that I know of). I do have Reeder which works with Google Reader.
Check your Widgets!
No Widgets except the 4 preinstalled basics: clock, calculator, etc.
I get a sound, a cha-ching, just like an old cash register opening every time I start Safari. No other programs, just when I start Safari. I have no extensions running, and I hate to have to take this all the way to the Apple store just to have someone look at something silly like this. But I can't figure it out. It makes my wife laugh though!
What happens visually? Do you get the three step opening of chrome apple, welcome to safari and the compass?
Thanks Kirk. The "Welcome to Safari - Apple Inc." link you included is exactly what I get each time I open Safari.
I don't know if I made it my "Home Page". How would I determine that (and undo it).
Safari preferences / General tab

Thanks! That's been bugging me for months!

Same problem, drove me nuts too. I think I found the answer for me. Seems to be different from other solutitions. Take a look.
Safari Preferences> Extensions>GMail Notifier>click "Check me to open Settings Window">Notifications. "Sounds" was enabled. The default sound was "bell" which is the mysterious Ka-ching sound. Remove the check mark from sounds and you lose the sound. Hope it works for you.

I'm guessing you've solved this a long time ago.
There are 3 keys at the top right of your Mac keyboard (F10-12) that control volume on the computer.
Cheers
