Message send failure for iMessage

Sometimes when I use imessage, my message shows up as message send failure. However, the person on the receiving end, actually receives that message that shows up as message send failure for me, and replies to that message. But, sometimes, when my messages shows up as message send failure, the message actually doenst send, as in the receiving person doesnt get the message. So in the end, when I retry sending, I never know whether I sent a message five times since the person got the message the first time, or if the person only got it once. Does anyone have this problem too? I have an iPhone 4.

iMessage uses the internet to send its messages rather than using the carriers SMS system. As a result, an internet connection is required to use iMessage to send text messages to other iPhones, iPods, and iPads running iOS 5.0 or later. Usually, iOS 5 will select the appropiate message delivery method depending if you are connected to the internet or not. If your iPhone uses iMessage you'll see that the conversation bubble will be blue, messages that aren't sent via iMessage will have a green conversation bubble.

Hope this helps.
